Map of the Union Station in Los Angeles

Location:
LA Metro Union Station
I chose this location because, with the upcoming Olympics being hosted in Los Angeles in 2028, I wondered if one of the major hubs and transit stops for public transportation in Los Angeles was ready to handle the large influx of tourists. In particular, I was interested in observing whether the way-finding and signage in the station were clear and easy to navigate.
Research Plan:
Identify the arrival experiences of passengers getting off the Metrolink trains at LA Union Station and observe how the foot traffic flows and how passengers navigate through the passageway to the lobbies. Observe the navigation patterns of the traffic flow.
Reason:
This specific area is observed due to the narrowness of the passageway compared to the lobbies at both ends of the passageway.
Research Questions:
• How can the foot traffic of passengers arriving at LA Union Station from the Metrolink trains to the passageway to the lobbies be improved?
• Are they experiencing any difficulties or challenges? How are they navigating through the passageways?
